Phenolic Content and Biological Activities of Ethanol Extracts from Medicinal Plants in East Kalimantan, Indonesia

The Dayak tribe are the indigenous people of West Kutai, East Kalimantan, Indonesia, and they have experiences in using plants for traditional medicine commonly used include Baccaurea macrocarpa (Miq.) Müll.Arg., Entada phaseoloides (L.) Merr., Goniothalamus macrophyllus (Blume) Hook.f. & Thomson, Gynura crepidioides Benth., Helicia robusta (Roxb.) R. Br var. robusta, Litsea elliptica, Pogostemon cablin (Blanco) Benth, Rhodomyrtus tomentosa (Aiton) Hassk. Therefore, present study aimed to analyze these plant species their phenolic content, antioxidant, antibacterial, anti-tyrosinase, anticancer activities. total content antioxidant capacity were analyzed Folin-Ciocalteu reagent phosphomolybdenum method, respectively. activities evaluated by DPPH ABTS assays. antibacterial activity was determined agar well diffusion microdilution methods against six bacterial strains. extracts assayed MDA-MB-231 human breast cancer cells. Based on ethanol extraction, highest yield obtained from L. elliptica (10.42%), while H. extract contained capacity, All exhibited all tested strains bacteria, with found extract, which also showed E. tyrosinase inhibition (IC50 = 543.83 ± 51.06 µg/mL). results herein suggested that some medicinal Kalimantan potential as anticancer, anti-tyrosinase agents.
